Executive Director: GTIC Gold Refinery (S) Co, Ltd
Mr. Russell Smith has been active in the precious metal sector in Asia, Australia and North America for over 30 years covering all the major international market sectors including Central Banks, precious metal refining, sales of investment bar products for wealth management, structured financial products and mine and inventory financing.
Currently Russell is Executive Director at GTIC Gold Refinery (S) Co, Ltd (GTIC). In this role he is responsible for GTIC’s precious metal refineries, wholesale precious metal sourcing and hedging and the supply of precious metal investment bars and coins to the GTIC Group precious metal retail network in Taiwan and internationally.
The main functions of my role at GTIC are:
Management of all international client relationships including central banks, financial institutions, wholesalers, refiners and non-financial institutions
Development and management of regional distributors for GTIC product range
Recruitment and management of GTIC staff
Operational management and reporting for regional metal stocks, metal releases and logistics
Development and management of regional vaulting and delivery infrastructure
Corporate and regulatory compliance within glob regulatory requirements
Prior to joining GTIC and the GTIC Group Russell was Director of Baird and Co
Pte. Ltd. based in Singapore. Baird and Co Ltd are the largest precious metal refiner in Great Britain and Russell was responsible for the establishment and development of their investment precious metal business in Asia and Australia.
As Head of Sales and Trading for ScotiaMocatta-The Bank of Nova Scotia, Russell was based in Hong Kong and the head of a multi-product, multi-location sales and trading operation.
Significant transactions included:
USD 200M structured trade finance facility for Korean gold refiner.
USD 40M silver swap with a major Asian central bank, led to significant on-going transactions.
USD 50M gold loan to a major local corporate jewelry producer in Hong Kong
In his private capacity Mr.Russell started-up, raised capital and developed local and international sales channels for and later sold, a successful boutique winery in Australia.
